Rhode Island Public Libraries

The Rhode Island Be SMART team partnered with the RI Department of Health to make free gun locks along with Be SMART information available for free at all state libraries. Currently, there are 11 libraries participating. The partnership also works with RI Vets and RI AfSP. The program, Locks for Life, is posted at all participating libraries.

Hawaii Operation Driver Excellence and Traffic Safety Fair

The Hawaii Be SMART team tabled at the Hawaii State Department of Education’s Operation Driver Excellence & Traffic Safety Fair in Honolulu. This Hawaiʻi Department of Education annual event of the Driver Education Program in partnership with Par Hawaii and DTRIC insurance is open to any interested teen and parents to gain information on driver education and traffic safety, health and injury prevention. At the Be SMART table, volunteers share the Be SMART message, including the importance of secure firearm storage in vehicles. Families were especially interested in the demonstration lockbox with a biometric sensor and keypad and in options specifically for cars and trucks, such as console safes. Mahalo [thank you] to the driver education program for the chance to share this important safety message with Hawaiʻi families!
