Spread the Word, Wherever You Are
We all agree that kids and teens deserve to feel safe, no matter where they are. Together, we can use our skills and circumstances to work toward that reality.
We have a network of thousands of volunteers who advocate
for secure gun storage in a variety of ways:

Share the message Post about secure gun storage on social media or other online spaces, like neighborhood group chats, to spread the Be SMART message everywhere.

Distribute Resources Be SMART volunteers table at local festivals, back-to-school nights, and other community events to model secure gun storage best practices.

Partner Locally Partner with school districts, hospitals, law enforcement, and employers to help implement the Be SMART framework in high-impact places.
For Students
You Shouldn’t Be Afraid to Go to School
Young people today have grown up as part of the “school shooting generation,” where lockdown drills and threats of active shooting incidents occur all too often.
While it is always an adult’s responsibility to secure their firearm(s) and protect children and teens from intentional and unintentional shootings, students like you can play a role in communicating the importance of secure gun storage to the adults in their lives.

Engage Your School Encourage your school district to share information about secure gun storage with parents and caregivers.

Start the Conversation Talk to teachers, mentors, and family members about the Be SMART framework so they are aware of the dangers of an unsecured gun.

Remind Adults of Their Responsibility Share Be SMART resources with adults so they are reminded that it is an adult’s responsibility to store their gun(s) securely.
